Stuff I read - 16 Jan 2026

This one is later than I planned because my router died, and it took a bit to get it fixed. I'll post a network update another time. I'm very happy with the network now, and it should be much more robust moving forward.

Tech review of every(?) wall charger

I love content like this - no fluff, no wasted time, and it doesn't make decisions for you. Watch the first few minutes to get an idea what it's about, then skip to the end to see the results and pick your next charger.

Portainer documentation

Welcome | Portainer Documentation

Working on deploying some things on my home lab, and I wanted to learn Portainer to make it easier to manage docker-y things. As I tell my students every year, deployment always takes way longer than you think it should, and this project has been no exception. Hopefully I'll have some news to share on this project soon (now that my network is up and running again).

Indifference is a Power

https://aeon.co/essays/why-stoicism-is-one-of-the-best-mind-hacks-ever-devised

I've been intrigued by some Stoic philosophy lately. I actually don't love this article because the language is a little flowery, and it doesn't have a lot of interesting detail, but it does cite some other work I'll be reading in the future.

As a rookie very new to understanding Stoicism, I can appreciate the importance of choice in the philosophy, and see how it ties to my other beliefs. There are so many things in life that I cannot control, and I strive to be able to stoically accept the situations I cannot control, while endlessly trying to make better the things that I can.
